Zinc Pca (1%)
Zinc PCA (CAS 68107-75-5 / 15454-75-8) is a synergistic compound combining zinc and L-pyrrolidone carboxylic acid (L-PCA). Zinc contributes to sebum regulation and antimicrobial activity against acne-causing bacteria, while L-PCA is a natural moisturizing factor (NMF) that supports skin hydration and enhances the bioavailability of zinc. It is listed under Cosmetic Restrictions III/24 and officially classified as a humectant and skin conditioning agent.
At 1%, Zinc PCA has been shown in an in-vivo manufacturer test to statistically significantly reduce sebum production after 28 days. In-vitro data demonstrate strong antimicrobial activity against P. acnes at 0.1–0.25%. A 2011 peer-reviewed study also suggests it may inhibit UVA-induced MMP-1 production and enhance type I collagen synthesis in skin fibroblasts, indicating potential anti-aging properties.
Listed under EU Cosmetic Restrictions III/24, indicating regulated use; users should adhere to permitted concentrations. No additional contraindications are noted in the source.
