Tocopheryl Acetate
Tocopheryl Acetate, also known as Vitamin E Acetate, is the esterified form of pure Vitamin E and the most commonly used version of Vitamin E in cosmetics. It is more stable and has a longer shelf life than pure tocopherol. However, it is more poorly absorbed by the skin compared to its pure form. Its CAS numbers are 7695-91-2 / 58-95-7.
Functions as an antioxidant and skin conditioning agent in cosmetic formulations. Due to its esterified nature, it offers improved formulation stability and shelf life. However, according to dermatologist Leslie Baumann, it may not deliver the same photoprotective effects as pure Vitamin E (tocopherol) due to poorer skin absorption.
May not provide the same photoprotective effects as pure Vitamin E (tocopherol) due to lower skin absorption, per Leslie Baumann MD.
