Sodium Benzoate

Sodium Benzoate (CAS #532-32-1) is a cosmetic preservative that works primarily against fungi. It is pH-dependent, functioning best at acidic pH levels between 3 and 5. Because it is not sufficiently effective on its own, it is always combined with other preservatives, commonly potassium sorbate. It also carries anticorrosive and masking functions according to CosIng.
