Sh-Polypeptide-11
SH-Polypeptide-11 is a single-chain recombinant human peptide (also known as Acidic Fibroblast Growth Factor / FGF1) produced by fermentation in E. coli from a synthesized copy of the human gene coding for acidic fibroblast growth factor 1. It contains a maximum of 155 amino acids and belongs to the Growth Factor family of cosmetic ingredients. It functions as a cell-communicating / cell-signaling molecule that targets fibroblast cells.
According to manufacturer information, SH-Polypeptide-11 stimulates the growth and proliferation of fibroblast cells, which produce collagen and elastin, and may support skin regeneration and wound healing. One in-vitro study found that recombinant FGF-1 strongly stimulated fibroblast and keratinocyte proliferation, though an appropriate carrier system (lipid spheres) was required for effective skin penetration.
The use of mitogenic (cell-proliferation-stimulating) ingredients in topical skincare is noted as somewhat controversial by the source. Individuals new to growth factor ingredients are advised to research the topic carefully before use.
