Polysilicone-15
Polysilicone-15 (also known as Parsol SLX; CAS# 207574-74-1) is a silicone-based chemical UV filter described chemically as dimethicodiethylbenzalmalonate. It is a colorless to pale yellow liquid that absorbs in the UVB range (290–320 nm) with peak absorbance at 312 nm. It is approved as a sunscreen filter at up to 10% concentration in the EU and most parts of the world, but is not approved for use in the United States.
Provides UVB protection (290–320 nm, peak at 312 nm) with favorable, non-greasy sensorial properties compared to many other sunscreen agents. It can stabilize the notoriously unstable UVA filter avobenzone and works synergistically with Ensulizole to achieve high SPF values.
Not approved for use in the United States. Subject to EU Cosmetic Restrictions (Annex VI/26), limiting its use to 10% as a UV filter. As a chemical sunscreen, individuals with sensitivity to chemical UV filters should exercise caution.
