Polyisobutene is a synthetic polymer (a large molecule built from repeated subunits of 2-methyl-1-propene) used primarily in lip products such as lipsticks and lip glosses. It functions as a gloss improver and contributes stickiness that helps lip products adhere and stay on longer. When combined with polyacrylate-13 and polysorbate 20, it forms an effective thickener-emulsifier trio in formulations.
