Pogostemon Cablin Oil
Pogostemon Cablin Leaf Oil, also known as Patchouli Essential Oil, is a volatile oil obtained from the leaves of the patchouli plant (Pogostemon cablin, Labiatae). It is widely used in the perfume industry for its distinctive woody, earthy, and camphoraceous scent. Its key chemical components include patchoulol (~30%) and alpha-patchoulene (~6%), which are responsible for both its aroma and antifungal properties. It also possesses fixative properties, helping fragrances last longer.
Primarily valued as a fragrance ingredient with fixative properties that extend the longevity of scents. Its main components, patchoulol and alpha-patchoulene, are associated with antifungal activity. Notably, it does not contain any of the EU's 26 most common fragrance allergens, giving it a relatively favorable allergen profile among essential oils.
Although its allergen profile is better than some essential oils (e.g., ylang-ylang, lemongrass), it may still cause reactions in individuals with sensitive skin. Patch testing is advisable for sensitive skin types. Contact allergy to essential oils has been documented in dermatology literature.
