Panthenol (5%)
Panthenol, also known as Pro-Vitamin B5, is a precursor to pantothenic acid (vitamin B5) and is a commonly used, easy-to-formulate skincare ingredient. It functions primarily as a humectant, helping the skin attract and retain water. It also has documented roles in supporting skin barrier lipid production, anti-inflammatory activity, and wound healing via fibroblast proliferation promotion.
Panthenol moisturizes the skin by attracting and holding water, and supports a healthy skin barrier by promoting lipid production. It exhibits anti-inflammatory and skin-protecting properties, including reducing irritation caused by other ingredients such as fragrances, preservatives, and chemical sunscreens. It may also aid wound healing and is effective for hydrating nails and hair.
