Palmitic acid (INCI: Palmitic Acid; IUPAC: Hexadecanoic Acid; CAS# 57-10-3) is a saturated fatty acid and the most common saturated fatty acid found in both animals and plants. It is naturally present in human skin, classifying it as a skin-identical ingredient. In cosmetic formulations it functions as an emollient and emulsifying agent, and can also act as a foam-building cleansing agent in rinse-off products.
