Ozokerite
Ozokerite is a hydrocarbon wax consisting mainly of saturated straight-chain hydrocarbons with C18–90+ carbon chain lengths. It is chemically described as a complex combination of hydrocarbons produced by a treating process to remove acidic materials, with carbon numbers predominantly in the C20–C50 range. It has a high melting point of 58–100°C, making it well-suited for solid-format products. It is used primarily in stick-type formulations such as lip balms, eyeliners, and foundations to maintain product structure.
Ozokerite functions mainly as a viscosity controller and emulsion stabilizer, helping keep stick-type products firm and solid. It also acts as a binding and opacifying agent in cosmetic formulations. Its high melting point makes it particularly effective for maintaining the structural integrity of lip balms, lip liners, and similar products.
