Methicone

Methicone is a silicone closely related to Dimethicone, but lacking the methyl (-CH3) groups on one side of the silicone chain. Like most silicones, it provides emollient properties and improves the spreadability of cosmetic formulations. Its primary practical use is as a silicone fluid for hydrophobization treatment of powders, making mineral filters and color pigments highly water resistant and easily spreadable. It achieves this by absorbing traces of water from the surface of pigments, making it especially useful in mineral sunscreens and makeup products.
