Mandelic Acid(10 %)
Mandelic acid is an alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) derived from bitter almonds, named after the German word for almond, "mandel." It has a larger molecular structure than glycolic acid, meaning it penetrates less deeply and acts more on the skin surface, making it gentler. Its effective pH range for exfoliation is 3–4, and it is light-sensitive, requiring opaque packaging. Daily use is suggested up to 10% according to manufacturer information.
Mandelic acid gently lifts dead surface skin cells to produce a smoother, more even complexion. It has well-known antibacterial properties that make it a promising ingredient for acne-prone skin, and it demonstrates effective skin-brightening activity, particularly for post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH). Even sensitive skin types tend to tolerate it well compared to other AHAs.
Light-sensitive — products should be stored in opaque packaging to prevent degradation. Sunscreen use is recommended alongside mandelic acid, as with other AHAs. Frequency and concentration should be adjusted based on individual skin tolerance.
