Magnesium Sulfate
Magnesium Sulfate, also known as Epsom salt, is an inorganic salt conforming to the formula H2O4S·Mg (CAS #7487-88-9). In cosmetic formulations it is used primarily as a bulking and viscosity controlling agent. It also functions as an emulsion stabilizer in water-in-oil emulsions, where water droplets are dispersed in a continuous oil phase. Additionally, it can act as a heat-generating agent in waterless formulas due to its exothermic reaction upon contact with water.
