Lonicera Japonica (Honeysuckle) Flower Extract
Lonicera Japonica Flower Extract is derived from the flowers of the Japanese Honeysuckle (Lonicera japonica, Caprifoliaceae), a plant with roots in traditional Chinese medicine. Modern research has identified more than 140 compounds in the plant, with chlorogenic acid — a polyphenol — considered the main bioactive component of the flower. In cosmetics, it is used primarily as a skin-conditioning agent per official CosIng classification.
The extract is noted for anti-inflammatory and soothing properties, likely attributable to chlorogenic acid. It can also serve as a natural preservative, typically paired with Lonicera caprifoliaceae (Italian Honeysuckle) extract to form a broad-spectrum antimicrobial preservative blend. Research suggests possible antiviral, antioxidative, and antibacterial activities as well.
