Leontopodium Alpinum Callus Culture Extract
Leontopodium Alpinum Callus Culture Extract is a plant stem cell extract derived from the callus culture of Edelweiss (Leontopodium alpinum L., Asteraceae), a mountain flower. It is commercially known under the trade name Majestem. According to CosIng, its official functions include antioxidant, hair conditioning, humectant, and skin protecting. The extract contains an active compound called leontopodic acid, which has been associated with the plant's anti-inflammatory properties.
The manufacturer claims a visible lifting action on the neck and face, with in-vivo tests showing sagging skin on the neck tightened by -10.6% to -56% in three weeks and crow's feet wrinkles smoothed by -11% to -75% after six weeks. Edelweiss is traditionally recognized for its soothing properties, and a 2012 study (Mediators Inflamm.) confirmed anti-inflammatory effects of edelweiss callus culture extract towards human keratinocytes and endothelial cells. It also functions as a humectant/moisturizer.
