Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil Unsaponifiables
Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil Unsaponifiables is the oil expressed from the seeds of the sunflower, Helianthus annuus L. (Compositae). It is one of the most commonly used plant oils in skincare, with a history of use spanning over 5,000 years. The oil is rich in fatty acids, primarily linoleic acid (50–74%) and oleic acid (14–35%), with the unrefined version being especially high in linoleic acid.
Sunflower seed oil is a well-established emollient that smooths the skin and helps maintain hydration. It protects the skin surface and supports recovery of a damaged or irritated skin barrier — one application has been noted to significantly speed up barrier recovery within an hour, with effects sustained up to 5 hours. Its high linoleic acid content and comedogenic rating of 0 make it suitable for all skin types, including acne-prone skin.
