Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil
Helianthus Annuus Seed Oil is the oil expressed directly from the seeds of the sunflower (Helianthus annuus L., Compositae). It is one of the most commonly used plant oils in skincare and has been in use for thousands of years. The oil is rich in fatty acids, predominantly linoleic acid (50–74%) and oleic acid (14–35%). The unrefined version is particularly high in linoleic acid.
Sunflower seed oil is a well-established emollient that smooths skin and helps maintain hydration. It protects the skin surface and supports recovery of a damaged or irritated skin barrier — one application has been noted to significantly speed up barrier recovery within an hour, with effects sustained up to 5 hours. Its high linoleic acid content and comedogenic rating of 0 make it suitable for all skin types, including acne-prone skin.
