Dimethicone
Dimethicone is a silicone polymer available in various molecular weights and viscosities, ranging from water-light to thick liquid. It is one of the most commonly used silicones in cosmetic formulations. In skincare it creates a silky, smooth skin feel, forms a protective occlusive barrier, and temporarily fills in fine lines and wrinkles. In hair care it is a non-volatile silicone that smooths the hair shaft but may cause build-up with repeated use.
Dimethicone makes skin silky smooth, creates a subtle gloss, and forms a protective barrier on the skin's surface. It can temporarily fill in fine lines and wrinkles for a plumper appearance, and is used in scar treatment gels to help soften scars and increase their elasticity.
Non-volatile silicone; may cause build-up on hair with repeated use, particularly for certain hair types. Difficult to wash out without clarifying shampoos.
