Citrus Paradisi (Grapefruit) Peel Oil
Citrus Paradisi Peel Oil is the volatile essential oil expressed from the peel of the pink grapefruit (Citrus paradisi, Rutaceae), registered under CAS # 8016-20-4. Its main component is limonene, which accounts for approximately 90% of the oil and is responsible for its characteristic citrus fragrance. The oil also contains furanocoumarins, compounds that contribute to mild phototoxicity. It is officially classified under CosIng functions as masking and perfuming.
Grapefruit peel oil has demonstrated antibacterial and antifungal activity in studies, largely attributed to its high limonene content. Its primary role in cosmetic formulations is as a fragrance/perfuming agent.
