Citrus Limon Peel Oil
Citrus Limon Peel Oil is the volatile essential oil obtained from the fresh peel of the lemon (Citrus limon (L.), Rutaceae). It is composed of approximately 85–98% limonene, making it primarily a fragrant ingredient. It is listed under CAS # 8008-56-8 / 84929-31-7 and carries a Cosmetic Restrictions designation (II/358).
Its official CosIng functions are masking, perfuming, and skin conditioning. As a fragrant essential oil, its primary role in cosmetic formulations is to impart a lemon scent rather than deliver substantive skin benefits.
Contains furanocoumarins, which make it mildly phototoxic; lemon peel oil contains a medium level of these compounds — more than sweet orange but less than bergamot. Use with caution in daytime/leave-on products due to risk of photosensitivity reactions. Its high limonene content (85–98%) is also a known skin sensitizer and common allergen.
