Ceramide NP
Ceramide NP (also known as Ceramide 3) is an N-acylated sphingolipid consisting of phytosphingosine with the D-erythro structure linked to a normal saturated or unsaturated fatty acid (CAS #72968-43-5). It is one of many ceramide types found naturally in the uppermost layer of the skin. Ceramides collectively make up approximately 50% of the intercellular lipid matrix between skin cells, playing a central role in maintaining the skin barrier. Ceramide NP has been noted to act synergistically with Ceramide 1 for enhanced skin hydration benefits.
Ceramide NP supports a healthy skin barrier and helps keep the skin hydrated by replenishing naturally occurring intercellular lipids. It works synergistically with Ceramide 1 to improve skin hydration and reduce transepidermal water loss, particularly on irritated skin.
