Ceramide AS, formerly known under the INCI names Ceramide 4 or Ceramide 5, is an N-acylated sphingolipid consisting of sphingosine with the D-erythro structure linked to an alpha-hydroxy saturated or unsaturated fatty acid. It is classified as a skin-identical ingredient, meaning it is naturally found in human skin. Its CAS number is 100403-19-8 and EC number is 309-560-3. According to CosIng, its official functions are hair conditioning and skin conditioning.
