Cananga Odorata Flower Oil
Cananga Odorata Flower Oil, commonly known as Ylang Ylang Essential Oil, is derived from the fragrant yellow flowers of the Cananga tree native to tropical Asia. It is a chemically complex mixture whose composition varies depending on sourcing, extraction method, and grade. Its main components include fragrant molecules such as linalool, benzyl benzoate, and others, with EU-listed sensitizers accounting for up to 37.6% of its composition. Different grades exist (Extra, First, Second), with the Extra grade being the most fragrant and used in high-end perfumes.
Beyond its primary use as a perfuming agent, Ylang Ylang oil may offer antimicrobial and antioxidant properties, and functions as an insect repellent. Its scent is associated with relaxing and calming effects, though this benefit is primarily supported in aromatherapy (inhalation) contexts rather than topical skincare use.
Contains up to 37.6% EU-listed sensitizers and is considered to have high skin sensitization potential; avoidance is recommended for those with sensitive skin. The calming/relaxing benefits are supported only in aromatherapy (inhalation) use cases and are not well-established for topical skincare application.
