Butylene glycol (BG) is a colorless, syrupy liquid with the chemical name Butane-1,3-Diol. It is a multi-tasking ingredient that primarily functions as a solvent for other ingredients, while also acting as a humectant, penetration enhancer, and slip agent. It is approved by Ecocert and is also used as a food additive. Its safety has not been questioned by regulatory or safety bodies.
