Beta-Glucan
Beta-Glucan is a polysaccharide composed of β(1-3) linked glucose chains with β(1-6) linked glucose side chains, found naturally in the cell walls of yeast, certain mushrooms, seaweeds, and cereals. It is a large molecule, though smaller fractions have been shown to penetrate into the skin, reaching as deep as the dermis. Its CAS number is 26874-89-5, and its official CosIng function is listed as skin conditioning.
Beta-Glucan has demonstrated intensive skin repairing and wound healing properties, acts as a mild antioxidant, and functions as an effective skin soother and moisturizer. A published study at 0.1% concentration over 8 weeks found significant reduction in wrinkle depth and height, as well as improved skin roughness. It is considered particularly beneficial for sensitive or damaged skin.
