Bentonite

Bentonite is a colloidal clay consisting primarily of montmorillonite, available in different types and colors depending on mineral content (white, yellow, green, pink). It carries a negative ionic charge, which allows it to attract positively charged substances such as bacteria and toxins. In cosmetics, it is used as an absorbent, viscosity controller, bulking agent, and emulsion stabilizer.

● Benefits

Bentonite is highly effective at absorbing excess sebum and impurities, leaving skin instantly smooth and matte. Its negative ionic charge enables it to draw out positively charged bacteria and toxins from pores. Some research suggests it may help calm skin infections, soothe skin allergies, and benefit conditions like psoriasis and eczema.

● Cautions

Due to its strong absorbent properties, overuse can strip more than just excess sebum and may dry out the skin; moisturizing after use is recommended. Subject to Cosmetic Restriction IV/119.
