Ascorbyl Glucoside
Ascorbyl Glucoside (CAS 129499-78-1) is a stable derivative of vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid) formed by bonding ascorbic acid to glucose. Unlike pure vitamin C, it is stable and easy to formulate into cosmetic products. In vitro studies indicate it can penetrate the skin and be converted to pure vitamin C once absorbed, though the rate of conversion is not fully established.
Ascorbyl Glucoside demonstrates antioxidant protection, collagen-boosting activity, and hyperpigmentation-fading properties similar to pure vitamin C. It is considered one of the best and most promising vitamin C derivatives available. However, supporting evidence is primarily from in vitro studies rather than in vivo (human) trials, and the extent of benefits compared to pure vitamin C is not fully confirmed.
Evidence for skin penetration and conversion to active vitamin C is currently based on in vitro studies; in vivo human studies are still needed to fully confirm efficacy and the rate of conversion.
