Acetyl Tetrapeptide-5 (3.1 Ppm)
Acetyl Tetrapeptide-5, also known by its trade name EYESERYL, is a synthetic four amino acid peptide produced by the acetylation of tetrapeptide-5. It is primarily used in eye-area formulations and is claimed to work via anti-oedema (reducing water accumulation) and anti-glycation mechanisms. It is listed under CosIng with official functions of humectant and cell-communicating ingredient.
The ingredient is claimed to improve the appearance of puffy eye bags, particularly those caused by water accumulation rather than fat accumulation. A manufacturer-conducted in-vivo study of 20 volunteers using 10% EYESERYL (equivalent to 0.01% pure peptide) reported that 70% of participants showed improvement by day 15 and 95% by day 60, with improvements ranging from slight to good.
Efficacy is limited to eye puffiness caused by water accumulation; it is unlikely to address puffiness due to fat accumulation. The supporting clinical study was manufacturer-conducted, small (20 volunteers), and used a high trade-name concentration, making independent validation limited.
